Zero magazine presents Notte Italiana
Venice Architecture Biennale
30 – 31 August, 2014

Notte Italiana is a website and Biennale di Venezia “Weekend Special” organised by Zero magazine (the Italian equivalent of Time Out).  It tells the story of Italy’s clubbing culture from the 1960s to the present, including the relationship between Radical Architecture and discos including Superstudio’s Mach2 and 9999’s Space Electronic, the history of Romagnole Riviera where, discotheques and djs drove the local economy from the 1970s to 1980s, and Link Project in Bologna (1994 – 2003) – the first centre for art and clubbing in Italy.

The Weekend Special will feature talks by djs, architects, club owners and others involved in Italy’s nightlife scene, film screenings, and a party.  The website features interviews and articles on the scene past and present, including an interview with Riccardo Benassi on Space Electronic.

I will be giving a talk entitled ‘The Radical Legacy’ as part of the panel discussion ‘Radical Architecture and Discotheques‘, 14.30 – 15.30, 30 August, Corderie dell’Arsenale, as part of the following lineup:

Piero Frassinelli, architect and archivist of Superstudio;
Carlo Caldini, architect of Gruppo 9999 and manager of Space Electronic;
Bruno Casini, expert on communication and on music related to Space Electronic;
Catharine Rossi, researcher at Kingston University in London specialized in Italian Avant-guardes, like Architettura Radicale;
Riccardo Benassi, artist and scholar of Superstudio’s work.
